Visiting Istanbul this summer, I chose the W for my stay. Part of the Marriott group of hotels, the W is a luxurious yet trendy brand for the youth. It’s rare to find older people due to decorative items, low lights, and sexy furniture. Because I visited in 2013 and liked the experience, I planned another visit this year. Located in the heart of Istanbul, minutes from the shopping malls, meters from the nightlife district, and facing the sea, you will be fulfilled during your stay.
I loved it back then, and now it has become even better!
- Decor has been renewed and upgraded.
- Internet is now free in all the rooms of the hotel, with an upload speed of 2mb/sec.
- More colorful, more stylish, and the staff is as good as it always was.
- Showers are awesome! Strong pressure water, aromatic shampoo, and relaxing towels.
- The bed is superb! I’ve been places and visited hotels... this bed is exceptional.
Welcome to the W Istanbul where help arrives at the taxi the minute it parks in front of the door. Welcome to the W, walk the long corridor of mirrors, arrive at the reception where the journey begins. A drink at the bar, relaxing sofas... and wait until you’ve had a drink on the roof.
The room: I loved the shower, adored the bed, enjoyed the terrace, appreciated the internet speed, and spent my time listening to musical tunes from the Bose sound system.
What I enjoyed about breakfast is not the food but the ambiance. Low chairs, sofas, soothing music, and light coming from all sides caressing the floor and stone walls. Pay 25$ for breakfast and additional fees for kitchen orders. It’s as good as it should be but not something I’ll repeat every day. Sit, relax, enjoy coffee refills, and let time pass. I’ve spent two hours writing reviews, checking my mails, and enjoying the moment.
The W has one major problem, and it seems no one is trying to fix that. “Sound Proofing”. Every Friday and Saturday, sanding happens on the roof. Music and base come all the way down inside your pillow, and it’s bad! Our neighbor shouts st 3 am, swears and spends memorable times with his girlfriend which is pretty annoying and it has been happening every night.
I called five times trying to ask for a solution, and the answer is: “We can do nothing about it.” Good food, professional welcoming, relaxing beds and rooms but unfortunately bad sound: you have to know about it before booking your stay.
