Vivo is a fusion bar known as the place to enjoy a gourmet burger in Bucharest. Walk into an industrial style space where a lot of concrete, rugged wood and brick walls painted in white are found in a dimmed lit space… There are a lot of different and interesting materials used including metal knitting, empty beer bottles, wood pallets, pending metallic lights and ropes. The interior is lovely.
It’s an American style diner where the kitchen and bar welcome you with open arms. The menu is only written in Romanian: Burgers, ribs, soups, salads, summer specials, drinks and wine.
But why do all the customers stare at each other – that was the first thing I noticed.
Anyway we ordered some food.
- The Classic Cheese: Brioche bun, ketchup, salad, Gouda cheese, tomatoes, red onions and pickles. One can't deny that this is a good burger. The bun is a bit dry and chewy and the major prominent flavor is ketchup but the overall taste is fine. The quality of the meat is good, the pickles are crunchy, thinly sliced tomato, melting cheese and lettuce… all together makes an appetizing burger.
- The Vivo Burger, Game of Dijons: Bacon, caramelized onions, American cheese, truffle oil, tomatoes and pickles. Served light pink in color, the meat is thick and juicy with intense cheese flavors, less ketchup, a light sweetness, crunchy pickles, and the bun is acceptable. Bacon adds a lot of character to the burger.
- The Fries: Cheesy fries are all about garlic. Under cooked, I didn't feel the Parmesan and didn't feel the taste of truffle either.
It's a good burger. I would suggest steaming the bun to make it softer or use a different recipe…
I loved the place, enjoyed the music and the burger.
But I wish it was a non-smoking space so we could enjoy our meal without the disturbing smokes that spoil the experience.
