Enjoying a weekend in the mountain, my cousin joined me for an evening of cigar. He came in carying a bottle, which I was not familiar with... I am not usually a fan of liqueur, but I think this is about to change after trying Lochan Ora. Lochan Ora is a famous whisky liqueur made with the even more famous Chivas Regal scotch whisky and flavored with honey and a secret recipe of herbs and spices. Lochan Ora translates to "Golden Loch Liqueur". This famous whisky liqueur is made with Aged Deluxe blended whisky from Chivas Regal, then sweetened with heather honey and herbs, although the herbs are not predominant in the final product. Part of the Chivas Regal Family-A very sweet, but exceptionally smooth liqueur. As the sugar passes, the herbal and smokey scotch notes come out. There is a slight warming as you sip this liqueur. When sampling the liqueur the first thing that hits you is that it is very sweet, but exceptionally smooth considering the alcohol content is 35%. As the sugar passes, the herbal and smokey scotch notes come out. There is a slight warming as you sip this liqueur. This type of honey is made by bees from Bell Heather and Ling Heather flowers, among other types. Lochan Ora is an amazing way to end any evening. The initial sweetness gives way to the beautiful smokey Scotch finish. Smooth as silk and utterly delicious, you can feel a light rain falling...and Nessy playing in a Loch...with every sip. A velvet feeling ignites as if flows down your throat and warms your chest. Tasting notes:
- Start by smelling the richness of the ingredients and feel the smokiness go up your nostrils
- Pour a small quantity, and sip it gently to feel the herbs and honey
- Add one single cube of ice
- Enjoy this rich drink with moderation
My Opinion:
- Pluses: Whisky based, sweet, smooth, moreish
- Minuses: Enjoyment is limited by the bottle's volume
