849 Testarossa Spider

Ferrari today unveiled the 849 Testarossa Spider, a groundbreaking plug-in hybrid (PHEV) berlinetta spider that redefines open-air driving performance. The car, which replaces the SF90 Spider, combines a re-engineered twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors, delivering an extraordinary 1,050 cv of total output.

A Legendary Name Reimagined

The Testarossa name, first used in 1956 and immortalized in 1984, makes a triumphant return on this new model, bridging Ferrari’s heritage with a bold vision for the future. The 849 Testarossa Spider embodies Ferrari’s philosophy of uncompromising innovation rooted in tradition.

Record-Breaking Hybrid Powertrain

The centerpiece of the 849 Testarossa Spider is its 830 cv twin-turbo V8 engine, entirely revised with new turbochargers, cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, and intake systems, boosting power by 50 cv over its predecessor. Combined with three electric motors delivering 220 cv, the hybrid system brings total output to 1,050 cv – the highest for any production Ferrari.

Drivers can select from multiple driving modes via the eManettino, including a full-electric range of 25 km, hybrid efficiency, or maximum performance in Qualify mode. The on-demand four-wheel drive and torque vectoring ensure seamless traction and acceleration, propelling the Spider from 0–100 km/h in under 2.3 seconds and 0–200 km/h in 6.5 seconds.

Aerodynamics and Dynamics Inspired by Racing

Ferrari’s racing DNA is evident in the Spider’s aerodynamic innovations. A new active rear spoiler delivers up to 100 kg of downforce in high-load conditions, contributing to a total of 415 kg at 250 km/h. Redesigned underbody vortex generators and a striking twin-tail rear structure further enhance airflow and cooling efficiency.

For driving precision, the Spider introduces the ABS Evo system and the new Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE). FIVE creates a digital twin of the car in real time, optimising braking, traction, and stability with unmatched accuracy. Combined with revised suspension and weight-saving measures, the Spider boasts the best power-to-weight ratio in Ferrari’s open-top range.

Design: Bold, Sculptural, and Functional

Developed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the 849 Testarossa Spider fuses futurism with heritage. Sculpted flanks, sharp lines, and a double-tail rear create a distinctive silhouette inspired by the Sports Prototypes of the 1970s. The retractable hard top (RHT) transforms the car in just 14 seconds, even at speeds of up to 45 km/h. A patented wind stop systemreduces turbulence, making open-top performance more comfortable.

Inside, the cockpit is immersive and ergonomic, featuring a redesigned steering wheel with mechanical controls, Ferrari’s signature engine start button, and a new human-machine interface (HMI). The result is a seamless blend of racing functionality and refined craftsmanship.

Personalisation and Track-Focused Options

Ferrari offers extensive personalisation, including exclusive new colours – Rosso Fiammante and Giallo Ambra – and Alcantara interiors such as Giallo Siena. Clients seeking track-ready performance can select the Assetto Fiorano package, which reduces weight by 30 kg through the use of titanium and carbon fibre, introduces Multimatic dampers, and adds dedicated aerodynamic enhancements.

Ownership Experience

Every 849 Testarossa Spider is supported by Ferrari’s seven-year Genuine Maintenance Programme, covering all routine servicing. Hybrid-specific warranty extensions ensure long-term reliability, including the option of free high-voltage battery replacement in later years.
