Yellow and black inside out, a Shawarma concept has newly opened in Hamra. It's called Shawarma w Saj and it has come all the way from Saida to offer the city some fine meat and chicken shawarma wrapped in Saj, Markouk or traditional Lebanese bread.
I've been there several times already and enjoyed their shawarma each time.
The decor invites you to eat shawarma in all its forms. It is manly, black and yellow all over. Black floor tiles, stainless covers the open kitchen bar, bricks decorate some of the walls and the signature graffiti decorates the left sided facade. Writings on the walls excite and call to action: Follow your destiny, Saj zone, we serve hot food, sandwich biesnod el daher, original, saw arms addict crossing and more.
It's all about the Shawarma, a trendy version of it, while preserving its rich and authentic taste.
On the menu you can find a selection of shawarma based items, fajita, burrito, burger, pita bread and more.
The fajita is rich, generous, extremely juicy and good. A tender bun covered with sesame is loaded with a mix of chicken shawarma and fajita spices. Red pepper and guacamole sauce make all the difference.
I liked the burrito. A Mexican wrap filled with meat shawarma, cheese and jalapeños. The mix was enjoyable and sexy. Tender meat, end note of spiciness and fresh vegetables. That was a good one.
Hummus with meat shawarma in markouk bread. The hummus was good but the meat was a bit dry. Considering the meat is served without tarator in a sandwich it has to be juicier and glossier.
