Fine dining without having a Michelin Star, classy and upscale with all the attention a guest deserves, Philippe & Jean-Pierre is a restaurant on Rue La Trémoille facing the hotel we were staying at. With a selection of cheeses and a Serrano ham on display, the restaurant feels upscale. They also have a small variety of choices and a tasting menu in four or five courses.
It’s a small restaurant with two glass facades giving a view on the street, round and square tables covered with white cloth and lit with a candle, yellow lights for a dimmed ambiance yet a bright ambiance for better plates photography and for you to see what you’re eating.
On the table: four gougères with tomatoes and olives. They look like profiterole and offer a light bread with after-notes of tomatoes and salt.
Operated by a professional head waiter, he smiles, recommends and even invites me to take photos of details I might have forgotten about. I didn’t know that Chateldon is a naturally sparkling water of King Louis 16.
On the menu: nine choices of starters, seven choices of main plates, the cheese selection, seven desserts and bread which is baked in-house.
Excellent food is served here, fine dining qualifiés of which the beignet de foie gras, langoustine served in a square shaped cake. Thin lobster on a bed of crunchy fennel in a lemon and olive oil sauce. Every plate I’ve tasted is well balanced and equilibrated like famous chefs do it. Warm smoked salmon on a bed of leek giving it a distinctive flavor.
Am happy to have experienced today’s chef specialty; black truffles with black risotto and scallops. Bravo chef for creating such a fabulous cocktail of flavors. Redefining simplicity in an enjoyable mix. I’ve also had the fish with apricot, a unique plate I’ll recommend to all my friends.
Sometimes you find happiness in unlikely places and this restaurant drew a smile on my face. Loved everything this restaurant has to offer especially the music, service, and food; I will surely reconsider coming back.
I couldn’t finish dinner without having a choice of cheeses from the tray and their signature homemade profiterole with ice cream and dark chocolate. Their desserts are as good as the main plates.
Business meeting or romantic dinner, this is a restaurant I recommend.
