I can't get enough of New York... I have been there probably nine times already in less than a year, and each 10-day trip is a full food experience challenge… I have tried enough pastrami sandwiches, cookies, burgers, ice cream and desserts to feel the nostalgia of this city that moves so fast. Surely there’s more to discover and more to enjoy, but for the meantime, I think I've discovered enough places to give you my Top10 list of ice cream parlors you should not miss to satisfy your taste buds in the Big Apple. Visiting New York, check out the most mouthwatering ice cream spots around the city.
La Newyorkina Ice Cream: Flavors of Mexico in New York
It’s an ice cream shop that’s different from all the others. A Mexican ice cream parlor takes you on a journey the minute you walk in. Mexican tunes, Mexican decor, and Mexican hospitality until you taste the ice cream to confirm it. It felt like having traditional ice cream in the village due to the signature aromas and spices not found at any other brand around town.
Amorino New York: The World Famous Flower Ice Cream
Amorino is known all around the world for its flower-shaped ice cream. I already tried it in Paris, Rome and now New York. The same great Italian taste carefully mastered in a flower shape has been following me all around the world. I stop here every time I crave good ice cream. Today’s visit on 8th Avenue is special as I decided to give their crepe and waffle a try. A fresh crepe stuffed with three scoops of ice cream and covered with dark chocolate sauce. The waffle is crispy and comes with three scoops of ice cream and a rich drizzle of Nutella. What a lovely way to boost your energy while walking the streets of New York.
Van Leeuwen: One of New York’s Best Ice Cream Shops, The Black Sesame
After touring five ice cream concepts around the neighborhood in east village I stopped at Van Leeuwen. Coming here for the second time, I remember its ice cream to be one of the best in town. Indeed it is, creamy, milky, full-bodied... professional and innovative!
Ice & Vice: Ice Cream Has a New Meaning
The funkiest and trendiest ice cream shop in New York is called Ice&Vice. Expect to be amazed by innovative flavors like you can't imagine, joyful and welcoming staff, signature colored cones ... and more importantly, they are good. Enjoy some good ice cream in a space that specializes in its own way. Music, dimmed lighting, wooden floor... One fridge is where the staff digs in for your satisfaction.
Godiva: The Mouthwatering Chocolate Ice Cream!
I get myself one of those beautiful comes every time I pass a Godiva shop, that is in New York, Paris, Belgium or even Seoul. This luxurious treat and the finesse it’s prepared with is world renowned. So heavenly, and rich. The chocolate is smooth and beautiful, it rolls down the throat like velvet.
Ben and Jerry's: The New Almond Milk Dairy-Free Ice Cream
Ben & Jerry's, America's iconic ice cream has created a new flavor! It's not like any other flavor, it's probably as good as the other complicated mixes they have been known for, but this one is "Dairy Free". Walking past one of their ice cream shops, a sign caught my attention. Dairy Free ice cream, everything but the cow. I had to try it!
The Milk Bar New York: The Famous Soft Serve Cereal
I passed by it twice but it wasn't until I saw someone eating ice cream on the sidewalk that I noticed The Milk Bar, which has changed its location since the last time I was here. Momofuku is a company that has several restaurants, including this milk bar and other noodle stores and Asian concepts. The milk bar is a famous entity many talk about.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a New York Must
It's a small low ceiling shop with three fridges loaded with many flavors that change depending on the season. Expect some bizarre flavors including the Stinky Fruit, Black Sesame, Ginger, Wasabi as well as beans and pumpkin pie. I chose three unconventional flavors and I loved them. The Black Sesame, Ginger and durian dubbed the stinky fruit. I wanted to try Wasabi, but they were out. Order the waffle cone for an additional dollar, fill it with three scoops and prepare yourself to enjoy.
Soft Swerve: The Ice Cream Craze!
There's a craze in New York at the moment and it's called "Soft Swerve". It's basically a soft serve or "Merry Cream" yet with a difference: the cone is black and the cream is violet. This small shop managed to make a name for itself all over social media with their sexy ice cream cones.
Sundaes and Cones: Colorful Ice Cream Flavors
The best part of New York's Sundaes and Cones is the first impression you get as you walk in. The delicious smell welcomes you the second you set foot inside. The big space enjoys the simple decor, and today a long queue of kids wait with big smiles on their faces. "Sundaes and Cones" is not like other small ice cream shops in New York's Chinatown. This place looks more serious.
Mikey Likes It: Complicated Flavors, Mouthwatering Ice Cream
Mikey Likes It Ice Cream... an interesting name for an ice cream shop. As simple as the name sounds, their sophisticated ice cream makes all the difference. I walked into a simple place where good ice cream is served. Mikey Likes It Ice Cream is known by many and is included in several "best of' lists.
Haagen-Dazs Mouthwatering Creations in a Cup
It’s a food stand, probably like any other food stand selling ice cream; More than 22 choices of the creamiest ice cream on earth served in plastic cups for a grab-and-go experience. Transparent, showing the rich content, these cups are made to activate all your senses. Haagen-Dazs is an indulgence, a craving, an experience, a dream come true.
Milk and Cream Cereal Bar: A New Kind of Ice Cream Hits New York
It’s so generous that it will make your mouth water, it’s so tasty that it will draw a smile on your face... I’ve been to hundreds of soft serve and ice cream places and believe me "Milk Cereal Bar" is one of the best in terms of taste, flavor, creaminess, smoothness, and shape... and then you discover that it’s not even soft serve!
Stax: The Mouth-Watering Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwich
I discovered this place by pure coincidence on Instagram and I’m happy I did so. Open for only two weeks now, the guys at Stax have great ice cream but what is really memorable is the doughnut they stuff the ice cream in! A super fluffy donut without a hole in the middle with two ice cream scoops to fill it, covered with a light chocolate sauce and served in a carton of the kind coffee shops use.
Taiyaki: New York's Fish-Shaped Waffle Cone is Overrated!
A hole in the wall, easily missed between two buildings down in Chinatown, is now famous. Why? For its fish-shaped waffles. Just like any waffle, except in the shape of a fish. I first tried it in Korea last year and am now giving it a go in New York due to the huge hype around it on social media.
