My first visit to Germany was back in 2015, and since that day I fell in love with the country. It has become a habit to do road trips taking me from a city to the next especially around Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich while passing through other iconic cities and villages. After the fourth visit, find below my selection of favorite eats from breakfast to dinner and sweet cravings. I'll be visiting soon for more.
Deli Bros Fine Foods: A Must Experience at Frankfurt Airport
At Frankfurt airport Terminal 1B, Deli Bros Fine Foods caught my attention: with its open kitchen and rich aromas haunting the airport, I stopped for an early lunch. It was only 10:15 in the morning, but waking up at 4 am makes it feel like lunchtime. A burger, some sausages, a cheese platter, and the steak was my order. Served by a happy and funny waitress, the airport experience was better than I expected.
Délice La Brasserie at Sofitel Munich: A Memorable Dinner
Recommended by the Michelin guide, Délice La Brasserie, located at the Sofitel Munich, is where I chose to have dinner tonight. Drench perfection in the heart of Munich; La Brasserie is much more than a French Brasserie, a gourmet restaurant serving a selection of healthy and classy dishes created by master chefs. With soothing music playing in the background, we sat to have dinner.
The Sofitel Munich is a Marvelous Art Masterpiece, a Pleasant Stay and Premium Breakfast
Today, I had one of the best eggs, Benedict, ever! Two poached eggs on fluffy English muffins, toasted on the side, and covered with a robe of lemony sauce hollandaise. Balanced flavors, premium ingredients, excellent textures created on a beautiful plate worth a hundred pictures. Excellent! The next morning I offered liege waffles and flavorful crepes; yummy!
The Grill Munich; Excellent Meat Cuts and Delicious Sweet Potato Puree
Located on the upper floor over the famous Osteria, The shrill is usually compared to Berlin’s Grill Royal. Upscale and more expensive then the other restaurant down below, The Grill is an upscale restaurant proposing a selection of international meat cuts from the four corners of the planet. Dimmed lights, shiny wine glasses, a bar, and candle lights. Spotted on google maps with “four dollars next to it” -meaning a bit expensive- the Grill is an upscale restaurant for the meat connoisseurs.
The Restaurant at Movenpick Hotel Frankfurt City
All-day dining restaurant proposes a buffet for lunch or a la carte menu. Arriving at three after noontime, the buffet was already closed, so we had to choose from the menu; the signature beef tartare, the Zurich style veal, and Swiss carrot cake are world-famous items you can find in all Movenpick hotels. Decorated with different palettes of red, dark wooden tables and an open kitchen, the restaurant is nothing upscale or fancy. Let’s check the food quality.
Oscar’s Brasserie Moderne; Dinner at The Steigenberger Hotel in Frankfurt
Arriving late in Frankfurt after a four hours trip from Munich and a long day in Stuttgart, having dinner at the hotel before going to sleep early was an obvious thing to do. Located next to the reception, Oscar’s is a Brasserie moderne serving a selection of oysters and shellfish, charcuterie, starters, soups, classics like the hamburger, and Schnitzel, meats, and pasta and the main grilled pieces.
Breakfast at The Sofitel Berlin: A Recommended Hôtel for You and Your Kids
Every morning, breakfast is served between 06:30 and 10:30 on the upper floor — a large variety of choices and one of my all-time favorite eggs Benedict. Yes, one of the best I’ve ever had has been spotted in Berlin. The softest English muffin ever, two poached eggs cooked to perfection, and a creamy hollandaise with hints of acidity. It’s very special. Indeed, I’ve had it the first day and repeated the experience for the next two.
Breakfast at The Iconic Steigenberger Hotel of Frankfurt; Luxury in The Heart of the City
Breakfast is served in one of the hotel’s rooms; low ceiling, mirrors to make space look bigger, I was not enchanted by the space where breakfast is served: good for us, we were seated in the side room surrounded by high windows. Cold cuts, salmon, cheese, ready-made eggs, sausages, fruits, and cereals; a wide choice as expected in every Five Stars hotel. I enjoyed my breakfast, the service, coffee quality, spending two hours before hitting the road again.
Dallmayr Delicatessen: A Gourmet Lunch in Munich
One of Europe’s most famous delicatessen brands welcomes you for breakfast, lunch, or dinner up on the first floor. After touring around on the ground floor for German specialties and unique food discoveries, stay for lunch. I’ve been here in 2015 and still remember how great the food at this bistro was... so why not visit again. Visiting Munich for the first time with my kids, Dallmayr was my choice for the second lunch in this marvelous city.
Bocca Di Bacco: A Guaranteed Pleasant Italian Dining Experience in Berlin
Four years passed, and I still remember it as if it was today; one of Berlin’s finest Italian restaurants was fully booked on a Saturday evening. A garlic clove printed on a large canvas, pasta plates paintings, chili pepper, grapes, among other ingredients of Italian cuisine. Divided into several sections, Bocca Di Bacco is one big restaurant welcoming you for a drink, intimate dining, or casual group gathering.
Blend Kitchen at the Pullman Hotel: Lunch Formula and Good Food in Berlin
Located inside the Pullman hotel of Berlin, Blend is a trendy restaurant, decorated with style and serving lunch between twelve and two. Sit and relax, enjoy the modern decor while you wait for long minutes before anyone cares to approach you. Very slow service awaits. Choose from three starters, four main dishes, two desserts as well as the four classics. They do have the “Beyond” meat on the menu.
What’s Beef Frankfurt: A Concept You Will Fall in Love With
Waw! That’s the first impression! The place is simply awesome! Red, lots of red, walls were shining red... it’s really cool! A concept inspired by the American culture serves locally sourced organic ketchup and German beef stuffed in a homemade bun: good quality meat, special non-commercial buns, fresh vegetables, and excellent fries. I was happy to spot this restaurant by pure coincidence on google maps while searching for a place to eat at walking distance from the hotel.
Turtle Bay: Enjoy a Caribbean Experience in Dresden
This year, I’m spending my new year’s ever unconventionally. I was in Prague, didn’t like the crowd and chaos of tourists filling the streets of the Czech capital, so I found a car and drove all the way to Dresden. Two hours from Prague is the German city of Dresden. Walking the streets at 7 pm and trying to run away from the noisy fireworks, I bumped into an unconventional restaurant serving Jamaican food: it’s called Turtle Bay.
Breakfast at the Kempinski Dresden: Endless Choices of Delectable Creations
This breakfast deserves a review of its own because of the choices and quality of ingredients. I remember the unique breakfast at The Kempinski Brugge, and today, another Kempinski impressed me by its morning experience. Three dining rooms and a big buffet; a hot selection, endless choices of nuts and jams, bread, fruits, waffles, cold cuts, and cheeses, among many other choices.
Breakfast at Relais & Chateaux, Hotel Bülow Palais in Dresden: Perfection in the Details
When you’re dining in a starred restaurant enchanted by soothing music when luxury is the moto and style is the general vibe, you can’t but be amazed. I was amazed by this breakfast created to impress. I loved the seating, the table setup, the music, the decor, and, most importantly, the choice of food.
My Latest Tasty Discovery: Marché Movenpick
I thought Movenpick is a hotel brand until I discovered their ice cream and now that Movenpick also has a market. An amazing food marketplace inspired by the street food markets of the world where fun, colors, and fresh aromas blend together. Marché International develops innovative foodservice solutions and operates restaurants on highways, in airports, and in selected city center locations. Through the well-known brand names Marché Mövenpick, Palavrion Grill, Mövenpick Restaurants, White Monkey and Cindy’s Diner, Marché International offers culinary creations that are characterized by absolute freshness, quality, and taste.
Gusto: The Italian at Villa Kennedy Hotel Frankfurt
Two black chandeliers, wooden floor, paintings decorate the main wall, dimmed lights, black tables, and chairs, benches here and there, round and rectangular tables with painting coloring the walls. It's a wide space; it's the famous Italian at Rocco Forte, Frankfurt.
Barcomi's: A Cup of Culture in Berlin
Her name is Cynthia Barcomi, and she has already published five books. Known to have some of the finest cakes in Berlin, the deli cafe is nestled inside an old complex of buildings made of red bricks. Leave your car in the alley and walk the few meters to the restaurant. Three corridors, each lit with colored neon lights, meet in the middle court where the restaurant entrance is.
Grill Royal Berlin: A Restaurant a la mode
They say it's "the" place one has to visit, the German capital's most famous grill where everyone meets. As we arrived, we understood the hype around it. A wide space, large and loaded with people. Probably a hundred tables where almost all are couples. Tonight dinner is at Grill Royal.
The Grand: A Beautiful Restaurant, Amazing Meat, Delicious Desserts in Berlin
Leave the best for last as they say, and before leaving Berlin, we found a table for four at The Grand restaurant known to serve international cuisine... It turned out to be much more than a simple restaurant.
Breakfast at The Charles Rocco Forte Hotel Munich
It is superb, classy with touches of luxury and finesse like everything at The Rocco Forte. The hotel, room, and bar were just great, not to mention their professional concierge service, which did everything he could to keep us satisfied. That morning, after a relaxing long night's sleep, it was breakfast, my favorite part of the day.
Augustiner Keller: Traditional Dining in Munich
The hotel concierge recommended it, and he was right; the restaurant makes you live the real, local experience, the beer, the meat, the fat, and ambiance nestled in one of the capital's old theatrical halls.
Storia: A Trendy Italian Restaurant in Munich
Storia is a family-owned restaurant renowned for the authentic food it serves, which is a characteristic of the region of Cilento, Campania, in the south of Italy. Storia is the right place for everyone who loves classic Italian with a modern touch. Dimmed lights and classical music, we were here for a treat.
Breakfast at The Ritz Carlton, Berlin
You will get the feeling that you're in a French bakery in Paris as you walk into for breakfast in The Ritz Carlton, Berlin. French music, metal chandeliers, and wooden chairs... You will find beautiful displays of candy jars and bread baskets.
