I checked in and started walking around. It's a journey with endless steps, hundreds of photographs... I was trying to cover every single corner without forgetting any detail. I was transported by the colors, by the finesse and the class this space has to offer.
Behind the bar, a restaurant welcomes you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Served by professional staff, I ordered breakfast. A waiter approached with such elegance, to take the order and ask what we would like to have for drinks. Eggs Benedict, a bagel and some pancakes was my obvious choice.
I sat down and relaxed. It took me a few minutes to realise where I was. It's not your luxurious golden hotel but a simple cozy and enjoyable place where spending time makes you love it more. I was feeling good... I didn't want to leave! Check out the photos in the gallery, I took many.
Breakfast looks great... but the taste was below average. I found my home in London like the title says but unfortunately that home needs a new cook. The Eggs Benedict which we ordered very soft came extra hard. The hollandaise needs more flavor and the English muffins were way too thick. The pancakes were so chewy that I felt like I was eating a French baguette. Bathing in butter, they were so unpleasantly greasy and lacked fluffiness and airiness.
The bagel is merely a piece of bread with a whole in the middle, far from being a real Canadian or New York bagel, and the smoked salmon is thin, hard and oily. It saddens me to receive plates that look so good, served by such professionals only to taste so unpleasant. My expectations were so high! Not a recommended breakfast for sure but I didn't lose faith; I try another meal before leaving.
A new day in London starts at breakfast. Eggs Benedict again hoping to eat better food the next day and sample the buffet table. The same thick muffin, and even though I requested them to be soft I received medium poached eggs but again, the service and style were outstanding.
I loved the chili beans and poached eggs and found this idea to be unique. Spicy beans with two poached eggs on crunchy toast. Using toast makes a big difference, the eggs were cooked well and the beans, cooked and mixed with their sauce to spice up your morning.
On the side, we received a toast stand, jam and butter, the same great black coffee and a buffet table. Danish pastry, muffins, croissants, a wide selection of cereals and nuts, bowls filled with fruit cut in cubes, fresh fruit used as a decorative center and milk. Enough to add some freshness to your morning!
Such an awesome hotel...but below average food!
