The Villa Kennedy Hotel, Rocco Forte Frankfurt

Two black chandeliers, wooden floor, paintings decorate the main wall, dimmed lights, black tables and chairs, benches here and there, round and rectangular tables with painting coloring the walls. It's a wide space, it's the famous Italian at Rocco Forte, Frankfurt.

A professional staff smiling continuously. A piano playing in the background, a wide and enjoyable choice of meals and a fine set of cutlery; I was sure the experience is going to be memorable.

Hepp cutlery, Villeroy plates and Schott Zwiesel glasses, it's luxury at its finest. Three candles in red glass chandeliers, fresh vegetables with olive oil, homemade bread... Let the experience begin.

The menu, one page in a nylon wrapping, clear and easy to read. It proposes a nice selection of Italian specialties.

Dinner:

  • Risotto carbonara, a premiere for me, is a fine al dente risotto with the carbonara sauce. An excellent carbonara sauce mixed with rice and not pasta. Lightly salty, lemony and cheesy. Beautiful!
  • The fried calamari is a must order. A generous portion of fried calamari chunks with fried battered vegetables served with honey on the side. A sweet sauce with fried calamari, that is a premiere as well. An excellent combination, an oil-free mix, light crunch... Delicious!
  • The burrata is exceptional. A tender heart, colorful cherry tomatoes with balsamic and olive oil and some basil leaves. The quality is excellent and the tomatoes harvested while hard add an acidic touch. I loved it.

At lunch we waited fifty minutes for the main plates, tonight, twenty five minutes went by and the main plates were not yet delivered. Service is extremely slow or maybe the kitchen doesn't have enough staff for all the orders.

  • Spaghetti pomodoro, cooked cherry tomatoes, a bit over cooked, but enjoyable thick spaghetti, lightly salted, some pepper and an enjoyable acidic taste. Its rich tomatoes without the gooey tomato sauce some have; it's pure pleasure. I enjoyed my meal very much.
  • Lobster tagliolini with this hint of aniseed aromas and tarragon were enjoyable as well. A generous portion of fresh, tasty ingredients.

The Gusto is indeed a fine Italian restaurant. Give it a try while visiting Frankfurt.
