Whilst researching online for a place to have a good breakfast, I found George's. Down in the Financial District it's typically American with a bakery at the entrance. Spread across two floors, George's serves everything you could dream of to enjoy a hefty breakfast...waffles, eggs, pancakes and much more, as well as options for lunch and dinner.
The colors in here are yellow and black like the old American taxis. You can meet people from all nationalities while having breakfast and watching the news on big screens.
Eggs in many forms, from specialty omelettes to egg sandwiches. Fruits and juices, bread and muffins, yogurt, pancakes, waffles. Snacks and appetizers, Triple Decker club, Philly Steak, Chicken Sensations, speciality burgers... the American sandwich, soups, wraps, Italian specialities, pasta, sandwiches, potatoes, seafood and desserts... The choice is broad for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.
Now for the breakfast I had:
- Three dry pancakes, topped with some chocolate chips (not enough of them). The maple syrup added the right amount of sweetness. The pancakes were not bad for a diner, but not mouth watering like you'd expect from that American touch.
- The waffles were amazing! Super fluffy and topped with two scoops of ice cream and hot maple syrup on the side. It was really yummy and enjoyable.
- Eggs Florentine were a real disaster! The hardest English muffin I've ever had, my knife couldn't even cut through it. Spinach with an unpleasant odor, lots of onions, tasteless Hollandaise sauce and bitter and burned mashed potatoes. I've rarely tasted something as bad as this.
To be fair, I enjoyed my coffee. It wasn't bitter, it was light and full of flavor.
The service was bad, the food was below average and I left smelling like an open kitchen... I'm not sure how this place qualifies as the best breakfast around.
