DONUTS: I'm a Fan of this Exquisite Sweet Street Food Breakfast

A “doughnut” or “donut” is a type of fried dough confection or dessert food. The doughnut is popular in many countries and is prepared in various forms as a sweet snack that can be homemade or purchased in bakeries, supermarkets, food stalls, and franchised specialty vendors. It’s an all-day craving best enjoyed with coffee!

While regular donuts contain eggs and milk and are, thus, not vegan, vegans can still eat donuts. It's super easy to make vegan donuts or even veganize your favorite donut recipes.

The official dictionary spelling of the word is doughnut with donut generally being listed as a variant of the preferred original spelling. Doughnut is the original spelling of the word, coming onto the scene in the early 1800s.

Hanson Gregory, an American, claimed to have invented the ring-shaped doughnut in 1847 aboard a lime-trading ship when he was 16 years old. Gregory was dissatisfied with the greasiness of doughnuts twisted into various shapes and with the raw center of regular doughnuts.

The most popular doughnut flavor in America is by and large glazed. Its universality makes it a diplomatic choice for shared boxes of doughnuts, and like plain cheese pizza, it's the best way to judge quality and skill. For brands like Krispy Kreme, the glazed doughnut is absolutely iconic.

Glazed donuts took top honors, with 36 percent of the vote. Second place went to Boston cream, followed by jelly-filled, sprinkles, powdered and twist.

In 15th century Germany, where sugar was hard to come by, they were often cooked savory with fillings like meat or mushroom. The Pilgrims and Dutch settlers brought doughnuts to America. Eventually, holes were added to the center of the fritter to create the shape of doughnut we're familiar with today.
