In the middle of nowhere, facing the lakes, Deerhead is a local diner open for lunch every day of the week. On a calm Sunday afternoon, I stopped for lunch. Not too clean, not too vibrant and deco stayed with thousands of small insects covering its glass, I chose a corner table and ordered several sandwiches. On the menu, choose between a handful of sandwiches, soups, wings and tenders, burgers.
Let’s have some food: the schnitzel sandwich made of breaded and fried pork loin served with fresh sauerkraut and whole grain mustard on a hand roll. The Rachel sandwich made with roasted turkey, coleslaw, provolone cheese and thousand island sauce. The classic burger with American Swiss cheese.
Do not order the Draft Pepsi; it tastes cleaning detergent like almost all drafts I’ve had at diners in the states. The cucumber cooler leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth: watermelon, cucumber vodka.
There’s nothing exceptional about this food: the turkey sandwich is loaded with mayonnaise. The schnitzel is dry, and the burger is not cooked medium as agreed. The sweet potatoes are cold; thankfully the French fries are the tastiest thing I ate today. The burger has a bizarre taste to it, too heavy, too fatty and kind of smoked, anyway needed ketchup and some sauce.
Below-quality food is served here, food needing knowhow, attention and surely more passion and love. Bread should be fresher; sandwiches need some sauce, coleslaw is dull.
I ended up having a lunch tasting cleaning agents and dry ingredients. I loved the water and ketchup :)
