Vathi is a small, beautiful fishing harbour on the west coast of the Methana peninsula. It is a very peaceful hamlet set in spectacular surroundings at the bottom of a volcano - which, for the energetic types, can be climbed! There are also the remains of ancient Methana which lie just south of Vathi.

On approaching the harbour north of Vathi there is a small white chapel on the cliff edge. In good weather it is possible for a yacht to anchor in this small cove. It is also possible to anchor in the north east corner of Pounda Bay, just south of Vathi.

Vathi has a very peaceful little harbour, with only a few tavernas and no mini market. There is a bread van that comes round to the quay in the morning selling fresh bread, pastries, juice, milk and yoghurt.

There is some great swimming and snorkelling off the end of the quay, just watch out for the yachts manoeuvring in the harbour. There is also an outside fresh water spring shower near the end of the quay that is very refreshing during the summer heat.

Vathi is hard to see until you are nearer - when you will be able to spot the rock breakwater and the hamlet. Care is needed when entering the harbour as it has a fairly narrow entrance.

When in Vathi have lunch at "Το Βαθύ Ταβέρνα" or "To Vathi Taverna", a small family owned restaurant serving tasty local specialities.
