“Good morning sir said the doorman helping me out of my cab; welcome to the Rosewood!”. Spending four nights in the capital, I chose the Rosewood. One of the city’s most iconic hotels promises an experience of luxury and style located at the Covent gardens, a walking distance from the shopping and touristic quarters. Rosewood London is a five stars palace hotel with two restaurants and a bar.
Access the court, use the door on your right to access to the lobby. A rectangular-shaped lobby with seating area, a reception and concierge desk. Under a high ceiling in a hall decorated with wood, glass, metal and reflective materials, you are welcomed in style.
A gentle lady took care of our arrival, proposed a glass of water while preparing the room access cards. Located on the first floor, room 167 was ready. The elegant Grand Executive Room looks out to the hotel’s tranquil inner courtyard. Awash in natural light from large picture windows, this generously proportioned modern retreat averages 33 square meters in size and features beautifully curated residential furnishings, a ceiling reaching up to 3.7 meters and a marble bathroom with a deep soaking tub and overhead shower.
The room experience: with a wide window, a large relaxing bed, a working desk, mini-bar, coffee machine and large bathroom; expect to experience a great escape in London. A big television, fast internet connection and relaxing everything from carpet, to pillows and bed. The bathroom has the needed amenities and an abundant water shower.
Breakfast is served at The Holborn: A grand brasserie set in midtown London, Holborn Dining Room serves up seasonal, locally sourced British cuisine with a twist in a vibrantly bustling dining salon. Combining reclaimed oak with antique mirrors, red leather banquettes with tweed detailing, and two patina copper-topped bars, it’s a place for enjoying a convivial morning meal.
After four days at the Rosewood, let me share with you my notes. The good and the bad.
The good:
- Upscale and luxurious, the hotel oozes style. It’s calm and cozy, offering the needed amenities. It’s relaxing.
- Breakfast is delicious! Very good food with two different experiences at one of two restaurants.
- The location is good: if you like to walk, it’s fifteen minutes from Regent street, Picadilly circus and five minutes from Covent Gardens.
- The bed is one of the softest and most relaxing experiences at a hotel. The room makes you feel at home.
- Fast and reliable internet connection.
The bad:
- Communicating via email, many incidents happened, frustrating me before my arrival. An exemple; I asked for an airport pickup. The email was read after our arrival, and no one apologized.
- It’s better for the hotel but not for guests: why the experience doesn’t have a buffet? For me, at a luxurious hotel, the breakfast buffet is a must and part of an é prince I book my stay for. I felt deceived. With the breakfast choices they have, you end up eating the same after three days.
- “Lacking a personal touch”. Nobody explained that we can have breakfast at two restaurants. I didn’t see anyone of the staff during a four days stay. It’s a feeling I might not know how to describe but I didn’t feel pampered, especially for the price paid.
- Not too clean: the hotel lobby and the corridors should be way cleaner for a hotel of such caliber.
I liked it here. Marvelous decor, attention to detail, delicious breakfast and relaxing sleep.
