My last experience at Lord of the Wings was not the best. I had a burger that was average and a club sandwich that was dry - I left with a bad overall experience. It certainly was not the Lord's quality, but I did want to come back to try their food again.

Up on level one of Citymall, just by the escalator that takes you up to the cinema is Lord of the Wings. Not just about wings, the restaurant offers fine diner specialties. The place clearly competes with Roadster and Crepaway, putting the restaurant on the national culinary map and the international race to franchise.

Lord of the Wings is proudly Lebanese and has expanded into other Middle Eastern countries and beyond.

Today's experience was one of the finest. We were served by Elie, while the manager fine tuned the experience further, taking care of my little one, offering her pens and a balloon. The burger was great, the chicken burger was so juicy, the wings were perfect, and this time, the club sandwich deserves a trophy.

We sat on one of the benches next to the wall while Elie handled our little one. Free refill draft Pepsi landed on the table while we chose our orders from the wide menu.

Let's look at the place's details:

  • The general feel of the place is orange and yellow, while the sofas are green. Yellow lighting and other indirect lights decorate the right side wall.
  • On the left side, green sofas follow the wall as well as a middle island.
  • On the right side, a blue painting hangs on the wall.
  • Lord of the Wings has been known for its raised section, two tables with a view of the mall's customers
  • Outside, under the cinema's escalator, are a couple of tables for a fresher eating experience
  • Inside this square space, the open, lively kitchen prepares your orders, and even though a lot of it is fried, no smell takes fills your nostrils
  • One television shows the latest movies.
  • All tables are covered with colorful placemats printed with the restaurant's logo
  • A winged logo decorates the right side wall

The menu:

  • Individual and shareable appetizers
  • Go for Greens
  • Wings
  • The sauceology index (15 signature sauces)
  • Better burgers
  • Satisfying platters
  • Desserts

The wing flavors are: Spirachi, Buffalo Hot & Spicy, Korean BBQ, Buffalo Mild, Citrus Pepper, Sweet Chili, Buffalo Hot, Buffalo Suicide, BBQ Classic, BBQ Smoky, BBQ Honey, Honey Mustard, Teriyaki, Garlic Parmesan and Garlic Garlic.

Let's have lunch:

The improvement is clear. The ingredients have been changed, the portions fixed and the textures looked into. Today's lunch was surely not the same I had few months back. I loved the burger, adored the club sandwich, and enjoyed the quesadillas and the wings, the famous wings, which I can’t wait to enjoy, from one visit to the next.

  • Buffalo Shrimp: An interesting creation that's perfectly prepared, oil-free and fresh. Five breaded, long shrimp, super crunchy and juicy from the inside, are topped with a tasty buffalo sauce that's pleasantly spicy but a bit too lemony. I'd reduce the lemon a bit.

  • Quesadillas: Excellent! Tasty dough that's crunchy on the sides is generously filled with juicy chicken, melting cheese and crunchy vegetables. Add sour cream and enjoy. Try it out.

  • Chicken Burger: What's special about it is its simplicity. A whole piece of chicken breast fills this burger; a juicy chicken with a pleasant grilled flavor, inside a soft signature bun from Prunelle.

  • Today's wings were the sweet chili and teriyaki glaze: Exceptional wings, tender and juicy, with a fine sauce that's full of taste and very enjoyable. All the wings come with carrots and cucumbers on the side.
  • The Lord of the Wings burger: To be able to judge, I got the simple burger. A burger filled with sweet pickles, thinly cut onions, a slice of super thick tomato, a fine meat that’s nicely grilled and topped with cheddar cheese. I couldn't believe the change. Many improve but no one can make a 180° change. Last visit's burger was inedible... This one was good. All ingredients were just perfect and the meat is one of those fine ones that few diners use. Bravo! Even the coleslaw is enjoyable. PS: The tomatoes are way too thick. They should be half the thickness.

  • Club Sandwich: Surely the king of the meal, the best of the best, the order not to miss. It is frustrating to come to a "wings" place to order a "club" but believe me it's worth it. The mountainous sandwich contains chicken, eggs, tomatoes, mayonnaise, lettuce, bacon, sweet pickles and cheddar cheese and is a piece of art. The sandwich has a fine sweetness that comes at the end, while each one of the juicy ingredients contributes to putting a smile on your face. I loved the way chicken is presented, an unbelievable improvement. The chicken is cut into small cubes mixed with a lettuce salad and all together blended with mayonnaise. The chicken stays soft and tender, melting under your teeth. The tomatoes are thin, the bacon doesn't slide at the first bite, the omelet is oil-free and doesn't cover all the other ingredients. In one word: Bravo. If only they could remove the unpleasantly chewy borders of the bread! Please! They spoil all the experience.

The good:

  • The wings are really great
  • The prices are reasonable
  • I loved the thermometer on the menu measuring the 15 different flavors and their spiciness
  • The fries, skinny fries and skin on fries, are both tasty. The portions are generous
  • I liked the presentation of the plates with the knife used as a structural support in the middle

I'd change:

  • Use thinner tomato slices: They are thicker than the meat and the bun combined
  • Change the ashtrays to those without cigarette support: smoking is not allowed anyways
  • The menus are dirty and unappealing. I'll print new ones... and soon

I don't know what happened... is it a new chef, new management? I'm not sure... But what I do know is that Lord of the Wings is back and it amazed me!
