When I visited the hotel’s restaurant in 2015, that’s four years ago; it left me with a unique impression that made me want to visit again. This time, not for lunch but to spend the New Year’s last days, and experience the rooms. Excellent location, beautiful decor, soothing music... I love it here!

This is the kind of place you will want to return to, the kind of place that makes you feel nostalgic for it as soon as you’ve left. Located in central Brussels, the hotel has a rich history; the site was formerly a Dominican abbey in the 15th century and later the home and workplace of famous neo-classicist painter Jacques-Louis David. Explore The Dominican's medieval architectural language that is direct in its construction and multi-faceted in its carefully chosen antiques and design objects. Everything at The Dominican is inspired by beauty and comfort, uniquely juxtaposing historical elegance and modern design. Our in-house collection represents our art-centered ideals.

The bar, the dining space, the summer garden, and the rooms; let’s check the rooms. Wide rooms equipped with a fluffy bed made with relaxing linen; i’m not sure how to explain it, but what’s more important than the bed is the linen, and I’ve rarely felt impressed. It’s so soothing, relaxing, makes you feel good! A working desk, fast internet, a big bathroom, and two sofas.

Down at the lobby, the hotel is not fancy, not luxurious, not intimidating, but relaxing and welcoming. I slept like a baby, enjoyed the showers, followed by a delicious breakfast.

Breakfast served in the hotel’s main restaurant, which proposes an excellent smoked salmon, a reasonable choice of cheese, cold cuts, fruits and granola, cereals, and much more. I loved the music, the positive vibes, the lighting, and relaxing sofas.

Eggs Benedict, waffles, pancakes, and French toast are included in your breakfast; don’t miss them! The eggs Benedict... very creamy! Very intense! Acidic, salty. Two perfectly poached eggs set on toasted pain de mie and showered with very creamy sauce hollandaise. Very creamy! Intensely creamy the way I’ve never had it before, but I like it.

Flaky, buttery croissants, fresh fruits, pleasant coffee... I liked everything!

Before moving the second part of breakfast, I have to tell you more about the bed linen. The truth be told, one going back to my room to check the brand. It’s so homey, so soothing, relaxing... it feels like your favorite sweater. Fluffy and soft with enough firmness to ease the day’s back pain.

It’s pancake and waffles time! Crunchy and airy waffles prepared a-la-minute. Crunching like a biscuit. Fluffy and spongy pancakes with a side of whipped cream. They taste good and are presented in a classy way on black stone plates.

All of the above, and I was still on my first day; happy to have chosen this hotel, recommending it to all my friends visiting Brussels.

The BAD: Room service! Dramatic room service, one of the worst I experienced. A lack of attention, a lack of finesse... definitely a lack of training. The bed was badly done on a daily basis, the shampoo was missing, vanity kit not changed, one single water for two persons, hair found here and there... I even found a post-it note inside a towel! Imagine! Very bad room service not up to the standard of a Carlton.
