The Beirut Cellar is a local restaurant located in Achrafieh serving the neighborhood with the same menu for years. From Lebanese dishes and to French choices to American specialties, Beirut Cellar serves the local are not asking for sophistication but a simple restaurant where they can eat or go out walking to savor a homemade cuisine.
My last visit to The Beirut Cellar was more than six years ago. I was curious to see what has happened to the place all these years. Same place, same decoration, same menu, same ambiance serving the same accustomed people.
The Menu:
- Appetizers
- nachos
- salads
- Asian specialties
- pastas and risottos
- Cellar's homemade pasta
- from the grill
- the gourmet burger menu
The place:
- A very calm neighborhood
- A cozy soft music playing in the background.
- Old wooden brown tables.
- Dimmed light (sorry for not taking photos of the plates)
- Waiters serving what you order without any additional knowledge of the ingredients nor the place: until now I am trying to guess what they mean "The Revival" as stated on the menu. I asked the staff, no one had a clue.
The specialties:
- 10 different burger choices
- The Beef filet proposed with 6 different sauces
- Cote de Boeuf USDA prime 1kg
- Veal escalope or commonly known as "Escalope Oreille d'Elephant"
We Ordered:
- The suggestion of the day: Risotto Boursin Poivre (Pepper Boursin cheese Risotto) served with a piece of dry meat! Sorry but this dish is a total failure. Undercooked rice, tasteless with a meat that has nothing to do with the overall combination.
- The veal escalope is too thin making it too dry.
- The nachos: nothing special about it: a bag of nachos you can buy at the supermarket with some melted cheese on.
It might be a legendary restaurant and a favorite spot for people for my wife and many of our friends but unfortunately not for me. Lebanon's food industry is evolving every day and with more than 300 restaurants competing with each other, The Beirut Cellar needs a major improvement.
