Layla is just one of thousands of children affected by the conflict. After bombing started near her home, she and her family fled to live in an informal refugee settlement in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Layla’s parents don’t send their daughters to school because it is too far. They are worried that someone would hurt them on the way or that they would go missing. If the situation doesn’t improve for Layla’s family, her parents’ only option may be to send her to work.

WHAT ARE WE DOING IN LEBANON AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTRIES?
Save the Children has been in Lebanon, responding to emergency and development needs, since 1953. The current events in Lebanon underscore the importance of Save the Children's work, supporting 163,254 children in times of crisis.
As violence consumed Syria, desperate families fled their homes, many ending up in Lebanon. Now, one in four people in Lebanon is a Syrian refugee. Before the Syrian crisis, poverty in Lebanon was already widespread. Many Lebanese children had little access to health care and basic services. Now the strain on the country’s limited resources is putting both Lebanese and refugee children in peril.
Save the Children will continue to work to give vulnerable children access to education, health care, protection and a chance to succeed in school and in life.
