Pankee, a restaurant dedicated to pancakes has opened in Zalka. I don’t want to sound negative before trying the food but why? Why this hidden location, why the metallic stairs. Why have an employee that doesn’t smile, doesn’t wear an apron and doesn’t even stand up when seeing a car parking in front of the restaurant. No table service, no attention, and no welcoming, I sat on the sidewalk to try their pancakes.
Pankee sells pancakes, savory and sweet. They have the zaatar Manouche pancakes, cheese pancakes, and eggs. On another hand choose to have the chocolate pans cakes, Nutella and lotus among other mixes.
Pankeee looks like a little tiny shop but has a seating area on the mezzanine and below ground. This cafe kind of setup doesn’t have a single window. A round table, another one on the sidewalk, I sat and waited to be served. A melamine plate, plastic cutlery, a carton box for the manakish, on a cheap plastic diner tray Mc. Donald's stopped using; at least choose one kind of service.
Let’s eat:
- Very thick fluffy and spongy pancakes topped with the most acidic and most intense zaatar I’ve ever tasted. Not even baked or cooked the manakish pancakes are a huge failure.
- Pancakes and eggs! OMG! What a failure! Can these be even called pancakes? Two super chewy and condensed pancakes like old bread, two bacon sheets, uncooked sunny side up eggs, toasted and Pain de Mie. I'm sure they forgot to use yeast in the mix. So hard, the pancakes are hard to swallow. In Arabic, I would use the word “3ayb”.
- Dramatic! Dramatic is an understatement. The pancakes are not even pancakes; the mix is not even produced hours earlier to relax or not even containing the proper ingredients.
- The photos say it all...
I’m not sure why these guys are even working in the food business! I’ve rarely had something as bad as this.
