This summer's joyful destination, to eat drink and have fun
Massaya, one of Lebanon's wineries is located on the road to Syria, next to the convent of Taanayel. A very nice Relais, planted with Lavender and trees where the grapes become wine after years of relaxation. Last Sunday, we decided to move up the mountains to the Bekaa valley to enjoy a nice sunny day at the Massaya premisses where kids and adults can decompress from the city's stress.
Starters: Sage (Zaatar, Kichek), Salad de saison, Hommos, Grilled Eggplant, Grilled Zuchini, Tomato & Halloum, Grilled vegetables with soja sauce, Pasta with Laban, Kebbet batata, Labneh, Large beans, Nay olive oil.
Barbecue: Chicken legs, Chich taouk, Sliced potatoe, Safiha baalbakieh, Chawarma on fireplace, Kebbeh bel saniyeh, Frikeh, Vegetarian Lasagna Desserts: Fruits, Cake biscuit & Chocolat, Biscuits & Raha, Layali Lebnan, Ice cream , Soft drinks Coffee & Tea.
Bar: Classic Massaya rouge, Silver Selection rouge, Massaya Blanc, El Massaya arak.
A great day in a wonderful majestic location, surrounded by Lavender plants and protected from the sun under the shadows of their green high trees.
Things to be aware of:
- They have no generator at the lunch area so don't expect to ask for cold water or find any ice around.
- It is extremely hot in the Bekaa and no ventilation system installed which makes your lunch very unpleasant and the children very nervous. Fans should be installed the sooner.
- The food is just average without anything that extraordinary. Lots of garlic is found in most of the dishes.
- The quantities served, specially the drinks are not enough and finished even before the day is over.
- Kids acting as waiters who know nothing about what they are doing.
I loved it since I didn't expect anything. I only ate Labneh and fresh organic cucumbers and enjoyed my day away from the world. Kids were running around, elders were drinking wine and the women learning from the village's Saj lady some new tips. Try it, you'll surely like it if the weather permits.
