La Locanda is where we'll be spending the a couple of night during our stay in Amman. There's a special touch to this boutique hotel. Rooms are named after oriental artists and not numbers, the place is calm and relaxing. A minimalist decor and a welcoming receptionist.

This week we discover Jordan, six nights around the country's marvelous corners and hidden gems. I was happy to rediscover Amman, Petra, the Dead Sea and all those beautiful spots that make Jordan a paradise close to home.

We had "Warda El Jazarieh's" room. Fresh, white decor, the artist portrait in painted in grey on the wall, a TV, two individual beds, a shower and closet for your stuff. The room is small but good enough for the night. I was so tired that I slept like a baby.

The beds are small, too small for an individual bed, a bit too hard for my back, covers are not big enough to protect you from the cold... Not the most relaxing of sleeps then again, I slept fast.

Down next to the lobby is Maestro, a bar is known for its fresh mood and enjoyed by Amman young crowd. We went down for an Amstel beer draft last night, enjoyed the vibes but went back stenched with smoke.

Open the windows and wake up to the sounds of chirping birds. The neighborhood is calm enough to choose this hotel. Al Weibdeh, home of many of Amman's stories is nestled in the heart of urban landmarks and cultural centers along many restaurants and dining spots.

Breakfast though is a bit pathetic if I may say. One choice of cheese, two choices of cold cuts, boiled eggs and grilled tomatoes, three vegetable bowls, yogurt and cereals. Yep, that's it and the plates are dirty, badly presented, covered with unappetizing nylon and half empty. On the next morning, sausages and hash brown were added.

That's not to mention the restaurant itself. The night bar still smelling cigarettes welcomes you for breakfast, dark and badly lit you feel like sitting in a nightclub. They do have an interesting terrace but when you see the seats as dirty as they are, your appetite is blocked.

Thanks to a very welcoming staff, the lady at the reception made sure to assist to our every need, a smile on her face she asked about our stay and noted our comments.

  • The bad: Hotel smells of cigarettes from the restaurant below.
  • The good: Every room is different and you can choose yours on their website.

Two nights here passed smoothly before moving to another area in Jordan - the air conditioning is strong and refreshing and the Internet is fast...
