I love this place so much that I keep coming back every week. We arrived early to the calm Junkyard on Mar Mikahel and were taken care off by Chef Tomas himself. Lebanon is talking about this wonderland: its intriguing concept, a set up decoration worth a thousand conversations, delicious food...This place is really magical! Upon every visit you're sure to discover a new wonder, a new detail that will simply make you smile. But it won't last long... end of the summer, the Junkyard closes, hurry up!
The menu changes daily depending on the market's availability:
Today's choices were: Vegetables:
- Watermelon, feta, cucumber and mint salad (olive oil, salt and mint a simple mixture) - Lentils with balsamic vinaigrette and parsley (cucumbers, parsley, mustard, olive oil) - Zucchini frittata (egg, potatoes and zucchini with olive oil)
Chicken: Chicken with peppers and tarragon which is a perennial herb in the family Asteraceae related to wormwood. (Corresponding to its species name, a common term for the plant is "dragon herb". It is native to a wide area of the Northern Hemisphere from easternmost Europe across central and eastern Asia to India, western North America, and south to northern Mexico. The North American populations may, however, be naturalised from early human introduction).
Fish: - Octopus with lemon parsley dressing and fine herbs salad. - Seared salmon salad with trio of tomatoes. - Baked tuna with onions, potatoes and black olives.
Meat: - Penne with goat ragout. - Entrecôte with eggplant purée and grilled scallion (pure essence of eggplant )
Desserts: - Melon, apricot and mango couli.
The food is more than delicious: the food is an out of this world experience...
But here comes a few unacceptable mistakes!
- Cups should be shined after cleaning. - Some plates don't smell good. - Waiters are too unprofessional. Most of them are doing a bad job in an unorganized way, confusing the rest of the staff who are trying to offer good service. - The staff is continuously stressed and overwhelmed transferring this bad energy to the customers. - Orders are always late, chef and bartenders need urgent help (My Mojito took them 35minutes to be delivered)
But nevertheless, we we ate, laughed, drunk, enjoyed our time, all for only $30 per person.
A few more summer days ahead and the Junkyard closes for good. Don't waste time, head down to the pop-up container and experience an amazing summer idea in Lebanon that you won't ever forget. Enjoy more pictures of the junkyard
