Increase Your Sexuality with Food: Basil

Our journey through foods that increase sexuality continues. This week I put the spotlight on Basil.

This herb has often been described as the herb of love and fertility. The smell of basil has an aphrodisiac effect and has thought to drive men crazy with lust. Women would dust dry basil powder on their bodies to become more attractive... Not only does it make the meals smell and taste better, but it also said to have a lot of beneficial effects on human body, mind and soul which helps to "put you in the mood." A bit of history: Basil is associated with the Haitian love goddess, Erzulie, who is known for her beauty, sweetness, love and sensuality. Basil is a popular tool in many love spells focused on love, relationships, and sexuality.

In Italy, sweet basil is called "kiss me Nicholas," "bacia-nicola,".Basil was once considered among the earth’s most noble and sacred plants. The plant is believed to have originated in Asia, but its use in European culture dates back to Ancient Greece. (The Greeks called the herb “basilkohn” which means “royal.”) In Roman times, basil was a symbol of love. Maybe this explains why Italians are so romantic! In all cases, Basil is considered a good source of Vitamin A. It also provides beta carotene, magnesium, potassium and C.
