Huckleberry, located in Santa Monica, is where I'm having my second breakfast this morning, after leaving Bondi Harvest amazed, I wanted more. On the menu, displayed behind the counter, you can find beverages, all day menu until 3pm, kids menu and while cakes. Granola, eggs, Monte Christo, salads and sandwiches. At Huckleberry you'll find lots of cakes, cookies, bread and salads and a variety of coffee choices. I really wanted to order everything.
When I opened the door and walked into Huckleberry, I said wow. Large and fresh, the walls behind the blue tiled counter are covered with chalkboards, display fridges, beer bottles and cutlery metallic cups... The place looks fresh with a high ceiling, wallpaper on one side and an open kitchen on the other. Wooden tables surround the counter. felt good to see happy people chitchatting, positive vibes all around... I felt happy.
- I started with the Blueberry Cornmeal: A warm cake made of crunchy corn and chunks of moist blueberries. A gooey cake with a bizarre taste, a crunchy envelope, sweet notes, sandy corn bits with an overall interesting taste.
- The Egg Sandwich: Crunchy airy bread, fried egg with flowing yolk, arugula, bacon and cheese. So yummy, so rich, so good!
- The Monte Cristo: Fried and toasted sandwich, powdered sugar on top, melted Gruyere cheese, sliced cooked ham and blueberry sauce on the side. Love the sandwich, crunchy and juicy but I'm not fan of the sugar sweetness.
- Brisket with Eggs: A bowl filled with pulled brisket meat in their tomato sauce topped with arugula and two sunny side up eggs. Too heavy but good.
Good food, a bit too complicated and heavy compared to what I had earlier, but I enjoyed the American touch these plates boasts and the quality of ingredients each of which felt rich marinated and prepared meticulously.
Visiting Santa Monica, now you know where to have breakfast.
