Located in the center, facing the lake, few meters from the busy shopping district is where I'm spending the night in Reykjavik. A calm hotel, beautifully decorated, well managed and clean. Left my things and went discovering the city before sunset.
Dignified and imposing, Hotel Borg overlooks the beautiful square of Austurvöllur, in the heart of Reykjavík, across from Althingi, the Icelandic parliament and the cathedral. The Borg, which has become one of Reykjavik’s landmarks, is conveniently located within walking distance of variety of restaurants, businesses, souvenir shops, art galleries and specialty shops. The hotel's 99 rooms and suites, with Art Deco style throughout, are elegantly appointed yet offer an extensive array of modern amenities.
The rooms at Hotel Borg are equipped with modern amenities such as flat-screen satellite TV, telephone, safe deposit box and a minibar. Furthermore a complimentary WiFi, coffee and tea set, en suite bathroom with shower and/or bathtub, heated bathroom floors, writing desk, bathrobe and slippers, hairdryer, iron and ironing board and parquet veneered floors are in all rooms. Furthermore the suites have comfortable seating areas.
Even though the bed has small covers not helping much and the room a strong heating unit that absorbs humidity from the space, I slept like a baby tray to hit the east side of Iceland. A strong water pressure, a big television, a mini bar, the needed amenities, neighbors talking like if they were sitting in your bed, a nice view... Woke up at 6, waited until 7 and headed down to breakfast. One floor up, two corridors, fifty meters, one staircase down, five signs to follow and you reach breakfast. A big room looking like a cantina loaded with tables, a coffee bar and a buffet table.
With music playing in the background, started with a coffee before hitting the buffet table. Smoked salmon, a selection of cheese and cold cuts, fruits and yogurt, croissants, bacon and sausages, bread, vegetables, crackers, butter, jam, cereals and so on.
Enjoyed a rye bread with mustard and smoked salmon followed by one hell of a croissant you rarely find in Paris. Plain or almond -frangipane filled- croisant before indulging in a bowl of cereals.
An hotel I recommend if you're visiting Iceland.
