Spotted on the net as one of London's best Fish&Chips restaurants, Hook is located in Camden Town and open all week. Fish&Chips is what they do, served with sides and sauces. This place stared in 2011 in Dublin elevating a common popular food from a simple dish to a high end one.
On the menu you can find two kinds of Fish&Chips, one with panko breadcrumbs and another with tempura batter; both of which are served with seaweed salted chips. Choose from five different sauces, six side dishes and chicken if one doesn't eat fish.
The place has a glass facade overlooking the busy road and a facing bar as you enter. The dining space is divided into three areas, the main space, the side corridor and the inner room. A signboard "HOOK" is made of small light bulbs. Internet is complementary and the password is written in the wall.
White tiles, metal chairs and wooden tables with some of the walls painted in black while others are simply left white.
PS: They don't have Coca-Cola light!
While some American music plays in the background, fresh food smell travel around the space… we waited to be served. They do have an interesting selection of craft beers for your satisfaction.
We ordered the classic panko with homemade tartar sauce and the lemon basil with minty mushy peas and calamari hot rings on the side.
Oh my God! The calamari rings are exceptional. Small crispy calamari rings with light saltiness covered with spicy sauce and squid ink. That's a masterpiece.
Minty mushy peas, shredded peas with a minty freshness and a tender texture. It's a new flavor for me but I moved it!
They're good, they're finger licking good. The light crispness, the juicy envelope and the warm tender heart cooked to perfection. The envelope is so crunchy, premium fish and awesome tartar sauce!
The potatoes are extravagant. The fresh crunch and the taste they have! It was supposed to be a tasting ended up finishing my plates.
I really enjoyed these two plates a bite at a time. I've been to supposedly the best Fish&Chips in London before, but this is way better.
I really enjoyed it. Perfect presentation, textures, flavors, aromas, freshness and taste; I recommend it for sure! Next time I'll be back for the baileys, vodka and Guinness beer ice cream.
