While in Muscat this past week, I tried a few places that just so happens by pure coincidence are owned by the same person. I tried “Love at First Bite”, “Volare” and now “Graffiti Burger Bar”… Each of these places is unique, creative and offers something good. I met the owner, while trying Graffiti Burger Bar and let me tell you that this is proud of what he has and is doing in Oman. His avant garde attitude has driven him to open and lead some of the countries best eateries.
Very confident, the owner, known as Mr. Khaled gives himself credit, boasting about his achievements, innovative ideas and concepts everywhere… on the walls, the menu… Some may find this arrogant, but I honestly understand him after trying “Love at First Bite” and “Volare” and finally I left amazed at “Graffiti Burger Bar”.
Mr. Khaled starts by greeting you with a "Hey Stranger" and then tells us about how he believes that walls do not exist and they are just there to provide a platform to express yourself…
The concept, music, menu and decor, which does not include of any graffiti around. This was my first impression, as I expected to walk into a place filled with graffiti art. Instead you’ll see some unusual writings on the walls of this low ceiling restaurant where the color grey takes over this wide room. It feels a bit like a nightclub, more of a modern and creative space with glazed concrete and a lot of mirrors; it feels like a haunted house. It’s a bit too overwhelming in my opinion.
The menu is simple, five burgers fries and salads. The names of the dishes are quiet original to say the least: The burgers: "Glad-he-ate-her", "Beauty and the Beef", "Chick Flick", "Gold Digger" and "What Lies Beneath" and the salads are "Alex in Wonder Lamb", "Sebastian", "Moulin Rage" and "Parmesan Dreams".
Before anything, please change the music! It's so disturbing and guarantees to ignite a headache.
Let's eat:
- I tried the “Beauty and the Beef”: A burger served in black bun made in house. It’s a burger served on a wooden board with herb cheese and fresh mushrooms. The bun is special, very light and airy. I would suggest they butter and toast the bun to give it that extra flavor.
- While I was there, I was in luck to try their "Macbeth" limited edition burger: A triple-decker burger made with grilled cheesy chicken topped with fried mac and cheese party bacon. This burger is served the smoky way in a metallic stand. Looks like a magical potion. Tender bun, juicy chicken, a crunchy mac and cheese and lots of flavorful sauce. It’s a good burger but again the bun needs buttering and a light toast.
- Moulin-rage fries topped with shrimps and a creamy trio cheese sauce. It’s a good one indeed. It taking fries to the next level with unusual flavors and mixes.
An interesting restaurant indeed doesn't serve the best of foods but surely is an experience to try.
