I went to a preopening dinner at Divvy, a new place that just officially opened on Mar Michael. The experience was lovely, although some fine-tuning was required… but then again it was the preopening. I’m back again after the official opening of the place to try the food during a busy evening.

Before starting, I have realized that people are skeptical about a new place especially doubting their credibility when they invite a few acquaintances before the actual opening. The same thing happened when Pzza.Co first opened: I was invited to the pre-opening, wrote a review and received a dozen phone calls and comments doubting the place. But I went again several times and the pizza place is still one of my favorites today. So to cut a long story short, here I am…

Accompanied with a few friends, actually some NGNO fans including Elie, Lilly, Olga, Zeina, Nancy and Michael we went for dinner at Divvy. I was eager to try their again burger as well as other dishes on the menu…

Divvy was fully booked with curious people coming to check out the place behind the name and its metallic doors. We sat on the same table I chose last time I was here, right under the decorative fans where light was just enough for the pictures... then Ramy, our waiter for tonight started by distributing his card where his name and favorite plate are written – a tradition at Divvy.

At first impression, a couple things I experienced and don’t approve:

  • Music was a bit too loud for a restaurant. We didn’t hear each other that night
  • We are at a Lebanese restaurant right? A large choice of local wines is a must. I was shocked to see only one singe choice was available, Ksara. We say no to "monopolization"
  • Pepsi only? I prefer Coke. No again.
  • The air conditioning system can and should be boosted up

Food tonight was way better than last time. I enjoyed every single bite:

  • The burger was really good starting by just looking at it, opening up your appetite to enjoy a good patty and an equilibrated mix of tasty ingredients
  • The honey mustard sauce is a must try; it’s exceptional
  • Honestly, I ordered the crispy chicken strips to compare them with the competition and they were awesome: The finest chicken strips I’ve had to date. Pure white juicy chicken heart covered with a crispy layer that’s not oily
  • The breadbasket is fresh and fluffy
  • Shrimps tempura disappeared before even landing on the table. Everyone adored them
  • The Crostini sandwich is surely a must try. Two layers of crispy/fresh/fluffy bread topped with fried eggs, crispy bacon and the needed amour of sauce
  • Mushroom Shitaki: A plate with fine dining standards

I’m not going to go into reviewing the food again or the place’s little details, but I have some messages to relay:

  • I was impressed by the quality of food and the huge improvement, which occurred in only three days time
  • The ambiance was really nice, festive and enjoyable
  • I’m reconfirming that Divvy is not a diner so please do not compare it to Roadster or Crepaway
  • I was happy to know that the menu took long months of work... a team effort from the kitchen and staff behind Divvy, whom I salute

The little details I enjoyed:

  • The paper used is recyclable
  • The place follows all international standards of food safety
  • The waiters are so welcoming, professional and know what they are doing
  • The plates are beautifully presented

Food is very good. I don’t recall any negative experience.

Now that you’ve shared your plates and enjoyed dinner, please keep some space for dessert:

  • The apple tart and lemon meringue are awesome! The lemon meringue tart is not the easiest of things to make: it’s texture, taste and smell. Divvy perfected it.
  • As for the apple tart… well, it’s truly a majestic piece of well-balanced flavors and enjoyable textures. Enjoy the apple’s heart and crumbling dough, which will melt under your palate.

Now that you know, reserve your table at Divvy.
