Dimane and Bekaa Kafra: Holly Villages of North Lebanon

Dimane is a mountainous village in the Bsharri District, in the North Governorate of Lebanon. It sits at approximately 1400m above sea level, overlooking the Kadisha Valley. The village is well known as the summer residence of the Maronite Patriarch, currently Mar Béchara Pierre Raï. The foundation stone for the current Patriarchal residence was laid on 28 September 1899.



Bekaa Kafra is a Lebanese village located in the Bsharri District in Northern Lebanon. Bekaa Kafra is located in front of the village of Bsharri across the Kadisha valley. It is the birth town of Saint Charbel. Bekaa Kafra has an altitude ranging from 1550 m to 1820 m at its highest point, making it one of the highest villages in Lebanon. Bekaa Kafra is the home village of only about 360 people.
