Wake up at Le Raphaël for breakfast served every morning between 7am and 10:30am on the ground floor. Rays of sunlight come into the room through the many windows in the restaurant.

Breakfast choices at the Le Raphaël were below my expectations. For a hotel of this caliber, the buffet is small and I personally expected more finesse, better presentation and more choice... Example: ordering eggs from the kitchen is not possible.

The buffet:

  • Bacon, eggs, sausages, sautéed potatoes, mushrooms and seasonal vegetables.
  • Four choices of cold cuts
  • Four choices of cheese
  • Fresh fruits cut into cubes
  • Orange and bitter orange jars
  • Yogurt
  • Cereals
  • Croissant and Danish pastry
  • Honey and Nutella
  • A bread basket

Round tables perfectly set with silverware, white tablecloths, fine China, silver coffee pots and four pots of jam. The place is run by three waiters. No smiles... They lack the right attitude and finesse for a five star like the Raphaël.

They made too much noise. The sound of the clinking cutlery, talking on the phone, shouting at each other, running around in a hurry... They were not pampering us as I expected.

I loved the bowls - big bowls for milk and fruits, rare to find at hotels. I was happy because I am a big fan of fruits and yogurt to start my day and always end up using the small bowls usually available in most hotels. These bowls are what I have been looking for for enjoying fresh fruits, cold yogurt, honey and corn flakes. This was my breakfast on the first morning.

On the next morning I tried their bread, fresh crunchy French baguette, which I enjoyed with delicious cheese and Millat jam. The croissants are so yummy, rich and buttery, lightly salty for the savory ones and intensely dark for the chocolate.

The pain au chocolat is a must try! Delicious!

Must change:

  • Add a selection of nuts, Eggs Benedict and cakes.
  • Better presentation.
  • Some classical music in the background.
  • They should be more generous.
  • The staff should be more professional; exactly like the staff at the reception.

Even though I expected more from a five star hotel, a bigger buffet and more choices with classier presentation, I still enjoyed breakfast and would repeat it for the €35.
