Meeting with friends in Kaslik, I stopped by the iconic Lina's which has stood here in Kaslik for the last decade or so. Sandwiches and salads is what they do, a cafe trottoir open on the busy street. The "Matin Plaisir" platter is what I'm having as a start.
Colored leather sofas, old square wooden tables and white paper on which the menu is printed - I'm not sure if their menu has been changed but I remember a colorful leaflet filled with photos at Lina's in Beirut. This menu is smaller and clearly well used! The place and plates look old as well... it's time for an upgrade.

I still love their generously loaded sandwiches, the bread quality and filling. I started with the egg sandwich, mayonnaise, tomatoes and boiled eggs on a multi-cereal baguette. Sesame and seeds, lightly chewy yet enjoyable bread, a spread of mayonnaise with crunchy fresh vegetables and smell-free boiled eggs. It feels like a healthy sandwich - tasty and has an enjoyable peppery flavor at the end.
The morning platter or Matin Plaisir is exactly what you need to start your day. A plate divided into six compartments including Zaatar, Labneh, white cheese, jam, scrambled eggs and vegetables. With that comes a basket of warm bread cut into slices, a baguette and toasted pain de mie. Great bread quality, good quality ingredients... an enjoyable start to the day.
