You get exactly what you expect; Brasserie Lipp is a French brasserie whose cuisine does not go beyond those limits. Don't expect a great starred restaurant and don't forget that you chose to have lunch or dinner in a French brasserie. It is one of the oldest.
Brasserie Lipp has been serving its classy Left Bank clientele Alsatian delicacies and 'blond' beer since 1880, when Léonard Lipp left his native Alsace to set up this world-famous establishment on the Boulevard Saint-Germain. Today, the Brasserie Lipp remains the home of the most fashionable artists, intellectuals and politicians... You will be served by the same waiter that served your father 20 years ago. Though the food is authentic and purely French, the worst thing is the tables. They’re so close together, everyone might as well be sitting on the lap of another. I’m not exaggerating; you cannot move freely or turn easily. Just eat and leave as quickly as possible since others are waiting to go in. It’s sort of reminiscent of the Entrecote experience. Famous for its Choucroute, an Alsatian specialty: a mouthwatering mix of wine-braised sauerkraut, bacon, sausages and steamed potatoes, amazing smell. It is really is the best in that field.
We had for dinner: Choucroute Lipp (sauerkraut with sausages, pork and ham), Pied de Porc Farci Grillé (grilled pigs trotters), and for dessert an exquisite Millefeuille and the authentic Angelina Mont-Blanc.
