One of my favorite French restaurants today is definitely Balthazar. I first tried their French finesse in London and was so happy to have had the chance to try the one in New York. Amazing food, the real French know how, beautiful soothing music, dimmed lights and other small details transports you to the golden age of the French capital.

The place is enchanting so is their food and experience.

Balthazar is a nice French restaurant in a big squared space with high ceiling, lights and ventilators. Balthazar is about delicious food prepared and decorated with love and dedication, and let's not forget about their flavorful coffee that will put a smile on your face.

The homemade donut: OMG! Oh WOW! What a donut! A journey, an experience! So fluffy, very airy with a balanced crumble exploding magically under the teeth. Cinnamon... I melted... The chocolate was even better, you bite and wait a second for the taste to appear. So tender, moist and a rich in chocolate. A piece of art.

Croissants: Good enough. After trying the donuts, I expected something flakier with a more tender feel. I've had better; I'd make the filling more intense, the croissant more buttery and the dough flakier and less firm.

Now for the main deal:

  • Puff pastry loaded with scrambled eggs, the scrambled eggs that are moist, mushrooms that are juicy and fresh asparagus. Flaky puff pastry which blends perfectly well with the eggs. A hint of salt, pepper on top... What an equilibrium.
  • Eggs Benedict: Tender thin English muffin, poached egg, tangy hollandaise and watery chunks of potatoes on the side. Feels light without being too heavy, the eggs Benedict are stylish with a touch of finesse.
  • The egg and cheese croissant is not to be missed: The quality of the cheese, the flakiness, the ham with fried bacon in the side. It's so good! The cheese, the eggs, the ham, everything! So enjoyable.
  • Elena, the waitress is so professional. Standing in her section, she awaits orders with a smile. The manager approached to inquire, making sure all was fine and the plates were presented properly... while she added some water to our glasses. Her way of talking wa different and so professional. She might have been the owner.
