I lately discovered the existence of permanent market spaces, or it has become the trend. After the craze of street food markets all around the states, London and cities of Asia comes the permanent market spaces where a handful of food stands join forces to create a special culinary experience. I’ve been to Gotham West Side which I loved, the Pennsy Market which is smaller but also vibrant and now comes the Gansevoort which I honestly found boring. Half the stands are closed, the other half has employees on their phone, music playing in the background but no soul.
The Gansevoort Market personifies old New York – offering a curated selection of locally produced goods and fare. The industrial inspired architecture brings together the history of the market while creating a modern communal space to eat, entertain and relax.
The market starts with underwear Donuts which I tried at the Pennsylvania station and adored, facing a cookies kiosk “Chip NYC” which is a “Levain Bakery Wannabe”. Big sized cookies, chocolate, mint, and funfetti among others. They’re not bad but not perfect. A bit crunchy, a bit sticky and using an average quality of chocolate.
Continue inside for middle eastern food, burgers, Asian cuisine, pizzas, and juices. Many kiosks are closed or opening soon.
Check out the photos and prepare your next visit to New York.
