As I lay back on the sofa, enjoying the breathe of fresh air, the utmost calmness that surrounds you allows you to even hear ants walking...
I remember experiencing Zareb in 2014 at Captain's Camp... I remember the man playing Oud, I remember being welcomed by the owners who made sure the dinner was memorable. Today I'm back at the camp for lunch, dinner and to experience Zarb again and sleep under the stars.
The camp has been upgraded with more tents, some of which come with bathrooms. Carpets cover the sandy desert... fire places, a buffet area and a huge saloon that can fit close to a thousand guests.
The weather was so good I could sleep here for eternity. For lunch, we enjoyed the traditional "ghallaya" with rice, meat and chicken barbecue, hummus, laban and salads.
Afterwards we went for a ride around the canyons before coming back to witness the Zareb ritual.
Now I know how Zareb should be done the proper way. Dinner is served at 8:30pm, a night around the fire, music, shisha before going to sleep in one of the many tents that make this camp a special one.
Zarb: Oh my goodness what a meal! The most tender meat ever, the softest chicken in the world and the most intensely flavorful rice I have ever had. A three layered tower is lowered underground containing vegetables, meat, chicken and a casserole of rice. Chicken and vegetables cook while dripping on the meat that drips inside the rice bowl. No words can describe the feeling, not even my taste buds that were overwhelmed with the richness of this composition. Umami is the taste, more than anything else.
As for the tent, it is big enough, although the the bed is hard and the bathroom opens up to the room, spending the night under the stars is worth a lot.
I don't remember waking up during the night. Make sure to finish everything you have to do before midnight as electricity power is cut off and comes back just a few minutes before 6am.
Delicious food, good vibes, beautiful sunset, a camel ride, shisha and tea... I feel good at the Captain Camp.
